Previous rumors suggested that Sony Pictures will premiere both the female-driven and male-driven Ghosbusters film separately, possibly building towards a bigger film that could potentially feature both sets of Ghostbusters.
We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment.
And every time the subject comes up, so does the name of Drew Pearce, the “Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation” writer who’s also scripting the other upcoming movie about ghosts, and the people who bust them.
While not specific, he spoke about Tatum and Pratt’s involvment saying “Thats definitely the cast we’ve been thinking about as we approach the project”. The Paul Feig movie is shooting but after that, rumors have continually surfaced then been debunked.
Oh yeah. Ive finished my work on that in the last couple weeks.
Despite having mysteriously pulled out of Gambit earlier this week, it would seem Channing Tatum hasn’t put a stop to all major projects on the horizon, including Ghostbusters.
Despite Pearce’s caveats this has turned into “a “Ghosbusters” movie with Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt will happen.” Pearce has finished writing what he had to write and Tatum still feels the same way he did a few months back (in short: too many cooks and its become overkill). The Feig Ghostbusters movie is very much ground zero for this new franchise.
Paul Feigs female lead Ghostbusters Reboot hits the screens on July 22, 2016, and stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Kat McKinnon, and Chris Hemsworth. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come.
Additionally, it’s still possible that deals are falling through on the Russo Brothers’ Ghostbusters movie, so Reitman doesn’t want everyone to get riled up about it before it’s confirmed to even happen. The writer says those are the actors they have in mind as they move forward with the project, though he admits all of the casting stuff goes on outside of his purview, and its his job to give whoever takes the leads “something exciting” to do.
One thing’s for sure: with all these Ghostbusters running around New York City, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man doesn’t stand a chance.
And at least from what Pearce revealed, it sounds like the plan is still to have the movie fronted by Chris Pratt, no matter what he says about that not being the case, and Channing Tatum. “Whether that happens or not we’ll see, but I’ve certainly given them the tools to do that, I hope”, he further said.
