Arsenal is languishing in sixth place but Wenger is still through to a fourth domestic final in five seasons.
Two fortuitous goals helped Arsenal beat Chelsea 2-1 yesterday and seal a League Cup final meeting with Manchester City, providing a glimmer of joy in a gloomy domestic campaign.
The Gunners advanced to a Wembley meeting with Manchester City after coming from behind to win 2-1 against Antonio Conte’s side as an Antonio Rudiger own goal and a Granit Xhaka strike turned the contest following Eden Hazard’s opener.
Granit Xhaka scored the victor in their first game since the transfer of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United.
“Every club in world in every transfer window tries to find the best solution for the team and I am sure we are working on it”.
Chelsea have reportedly warned Antonio Conte against his constant public sniping about allegedly not being given the final say over the club’s transfer targets.
Arsenal were soon level and when Willian was forced off after 30 minutes, Conte opted to send on new boy Ross Barkley.
Azpilicueta said: “After defeat you need to bounce back and show the answer from the team in the next game”. “In this competition we had a good run this season and we had great desire to play at Wembley”. If it doesn’t happen, we are strong enough to focus on the players we have. “They are dominating the Premier League at the moment, but we’ll see in the final”, said Wenger. While this worked well against Palace, it was immediately clear that the quality of Chelsea’s front three were going to overrun a midfield of one.
“Willian said he felt a problem in his hamstring, but he doesn’t think it’s serious, and I hope he’s right”. People who come, perform, they don’t talk, they go home and they come in the next morning, train well and the next day they do it again.
“For me, he is a special manager, but everyone sometimes makes a mistake and for me, he made a mistake to talk about us or a different team”.
Pressed by IBTimes UK after the game whether the successive wins prove Arsenal can still aim for the top without Sanchez, Ospina replied: “This two victories are very important because they serve as an encouragement”.
