Briles said Monday that he wasn’t aware beforehand that Jeff Lebby, who is also his son-in-law, was going to be at the Sooners’ home game against Tulsa.
The rule in violation here is NCAA bylaw 11.6.1, and that prohibits future opponents to show up to scout teams.
Oklahoma and Baylor will meet November . 14 in Waco, Texas.
Art Briles and Bob Stoops are at odds over Baylor’s RB coach being on the sideline at OU’s game. “And it’s embarrassing to me quite honestly”.
“To me, there’s not an advantage first and foremost in today’s world”, Briles said, via ESPN’s Max Olson. “I’m sure they will. I’ve got a team to coach”. Briles said he called Stoops and apologized. “He’s a great leader, great inspirer, he’s a guy that really makes plays instinctively, and I think that’s about it. I think we’ve been very fortunate up to this point”.
It has led to Stoops insisting on an investigation by the Big 12 and the NCAA.
Stoops says it is up to the NCAA to deal with the situation. “I’m sure they’ll handle those matters”. “And the NCAA will”.
Lebby was at OU for one season before having his career ended by an injury. It starts with coaching, we have to coach better, we have to be better situationally on both sides of the ball.
Kingsbury said Arkansas coach Bret Bielema “just got his ass kicked” after the Red Raiders’ 35-24 victory.
There’s some coaching spy drama at the college football level.
On Monday, Kingsbury attempted to downplay his comments.
“It’s unfortunate, I hate it. I hate it for the perception standpoint”.
But Bielema kept talking about Kingsbury’s remarks at his weekly news conference.
To refresh, Kingsbury took exception to what Bielema said during the Texas High School Coaches Association’s convention this summer, disparaging up-tempo offenses. Last year, Baylor rolled to a 48-14 win. “If you get happy, you get beat”.
Arkansas won in Lubbock, 49-28, last season as the Razorbacks rushed for 438 yards and seven rushing touchdowns.
When asked, Briles said he didn’t plan any discipline against Lebby.
But Lebby being on the sideline is against the rules, and and it will likely result in the second violation for a Baylor offensive staffer after new offensive coordinator Kendall Briles served a suspension for a recruiting violations. Briles expects McGowan to thrive with the extra work. So that’s his alma mater, he was up there at a wedding and he probably thought it was OK to go lounge around… for a few minutes.
