Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Saturday defended his decision not to correct a questioner at a recent town hall event who erroneously stated that President Obama is a Muslim. I have no reason to doubt what he says.
And when Pelley said that the man who asked the question was a “bigot”, Trump disagreed. Now, we can say there are no problems with the Muslims.
Carson, a retired neurosurgeon who has been near the top of opinion polls for the crowded field of Republican candidates, said he thought a United States president’s faith should be “consistent with the Constitution”.
Trump, 69, has repeatedly raised suspicions that Obama was born outside the United States and thus ineligible to hold office as president, forcing the White House to release a copy of the president’s birth certificate in 2011.
Trump: – well, let me ask you this – so he said, “There’s a problem in this country and it’s Muslims”.
As a backlash against Trump built steam, the GOP presidential candidate canceled a speech to a major gathering of Republican leaders in South Carolina hours before he was to go onstage Friday night.
Asked whether he was comfortable with a Muslim being president, Trump said: “It’s something that at some point could happen”.
Trump also said he has friends who are Muslims – but that the religion’s extreme elements are responsible for terrorist attacks. “There’s no problems. There’s no terrorism”, Trump continued.
“I think it’s been pretty clear that Secretary Clinton has an excellent relationship with President Obama“, Klobuchar told CNN’s Chris Cuomo on “New Day” Monday. “Some people have said it already happened, frankly – but of course you won’t agree with that” – a reference to Obama. There are more than 3 million practicing Muslims in the U.S.
The audience member stood up at the rally last week in Rochester, New Hampshire and said “we have a problem in this country and it’s Muslims”. “We’re going to be looking at that and plenty of other things”, Trump told the man.
Mr Trump has since come under fire for saying it was a question that “needed” to be asked and failing to correct the man. They are great people, they are incredible people…but we certainly do have a problem.
