Nathan Collier of Billings, Montana, claims that the Supreme Court’s decision last week inspired him to seek a marriage license for his second wife-to see how accepting of polygamous marriages America actually is.
“That’s not the conversation for this day”, Bell said when asked on Monday about his possible candidacy.
Rowan’s Clerk Kim Davis has decided not to issue any marriage licenses following the Supreme Court’s ruling.
We first told you about the Colliers in January when the polygamist family appeared on an episode of the TLC show “Sister Wives”. Equal protection of all citizens by government is fundamental.
The announcement is the latest step in Bell’s fight against the legalization of same-sex marriage.
According to a press release from Texas for Marriage, a public education campaign to amplify the bipartisan momentum for the freedom to marry in the state of Texas, 80 percent of Texas counties were either already issuing same-sex marriage licenses or were planning to start soon. The Trib also quotes the party’s spokesman, Javier Gamboa: “If they want to ignore the Constitution, so be it. However, they took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution”.
Bell’s initiative didn’t include any specific actions for how state officials should resist court rulings, saying that would be determined by state agencies.
These constitutional powers were democratically given to the court by the American people to ensure that no majority could ever trump the rights of a minority group. He was acquitted by the Senate the following year.
