Like most plot points in Kingsman, Hart’s struggle lurches abruptly between being tragic, comic, and altogether discarded. Unbeknownst to him, sinister forces are at work and it’s not long before Kingsman is brought to its knee’s within one night.
Kingsman is back with a movie jam-packed full of action, adventure and comedy. It was a cartoonishly violent lampoon of the spy genre that remembered to be a satisfying spy film in its own right. It’s all I’ve wanted to do since I was about 10 I think.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle wastes no time in getting back to the action, proving director Matthew Vaughn’s knack for giving audiences frenetic, well-choreographed fight sequences.
The script was written by Matthew and his regular collaborator Jane Goldman, who confessed that out of all the insane scenes they wrote, she was most looking forward to seeing all the ones with Elton brought to life on the big screen. She is actually the most successful drug dealer in the entire world. The first phase of this plan – kill all the Kingsman.
The Kingsman partner up with their American spy counterparts, called the Statesman, and Halle Berry is the brains behind the operation.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle, which also stars Colin Firth and Jeff Bridges, opens Friday.
With “Kingsman: The Golden Circle”, director Matthew Vaughn has once again tailored a film that’s an outlandish mix of over-the-top action, subversive social commentary, and oddly sweet character dynamics.
“The sequel to 2015’s hit “Kingsman: The Secret Service” won’t make you feel the urgent need to take a shower and/or throw up, like the original probably did”.
Firth’s Harry, who supposedly died in the first film, is a welcome return here, as the bond between him, Taron Egerton and Mark Strong is the key emotional draw in this otherwise disappointing sequel. The movie grossed $414 million worldwide. which means Galahad only got shot in the eye and lost his memory.
“Maybe one day he’ll be James Bond, but for now, he isn’t”.
Thankfully, Vaughn’s excess is rarely wasted. Almost every scene in The Golden Circle furthers the plot and deepens its characters while both subverting genre expectations and building its own mythology. The first film also settled with the same rating, but with over 200 reviews.
Personally, I found this start a little bit jarring and it ends up playing a much bigger role in the film than I anticipated. The one positive sign is that the movie was written and directed by Mike White, who doesn’t always hew to the most stereotypical and overworked depictions of American cultural life.
After a targeted attack on the Kingsman, it’s up to Eggsy (Egerton) and Merlin (Strong) to rebuild their organization. “There was a moment where the studio said, ‘Hey should we do The Golden Circle Part 1 and Part 2?’ and I went ‘Absolutely no way we’re doing that, this is The Golden Circle‘”.
