The first trailer, focusing on the Doctor Who elements of LEGO Dimensions, shows how iconic elements of the franchise will interact with other well-known universes that will be featured in the game, like Gotham City, Homer Simpson, Aperture Science, Scooby and Shaggy and some Ninjago characters. Additionally, the “Doctor Who LEVEL pack” will contain a new level, a minifigure of the 12th Doctor, along with parts for a LEGO TARDIS and K9.
But that’s just for starters.
When asked if this Doctor is like the Doctor we see on television, Capaldi said, “Absolutely”. Don’t worry. No product information has been shared concerning physical figures of Clara or Missy, though Dalek and Cyberman figures will be made available as a Fun Pack, now scheduled for January. The pack also includes a LEGO minifigure of the 12th Doctor and LEGO models of the TARDIS and K-9, all playable in the game.
It also features other robots from the Doctor Who series, most of whom are not big fans of the Doctor – no surprises there. In a very cool twist, when you die in the game as the Doctor, he will return as the original Doctor and then regenerate up back to the 12th again, allowing you to play each of the Doctors in turn.
The cost of getting in on the Doctor Who action is considerable, though. So early-era Doctors will have the old control room with the “round white things” on the walls, the 10th Doctor (David Tennant) will have the darker, dome-shaped interior, and 11 (Matt Smith) will use the asymmetrical, steampunk-influenced one fans remember him for. There’s a jukebox inside where you can choose from different Doctor Who theme music. This game will also dip in to the LEGO Movie, DC Comics with Batman, Back to the Future, and Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit.
September 29, 2015 can’t get here soon enough.
