Former Sen. Bob Dole Endorses Jeb Bush
The hits just keep on coming for Bush, however, and the latest comes in the form of a lackluster endorsement from the perennial presidential loser Bob Dole.
Bush tweeted his appreciation for Dole’s support, writing, “Honored to welcome Sen Bob Dole to the team as National Veterans’ Chairman”. I suppose the announcement was timed to coincide with Veterans’ Day.
He added, “Jeb’s conservative reform agenda and forward looking vision on issues including 4 percent economic growth, defeating ISIS and taking care of our veterans are in stark contrast to Hillary Clinton’s strategy to continue the failed policies of the present Administration”. He was the party’s presidential nominee in 1996, but he lost by 8 percentage points to Bill Clinton.
A news release notes: Bob Dole and President George H.W. Bush have had a strong relationship over the years, having both served our country in WWII. The Bush marketing crusade hopes Dole would be the little blue pill to assist grow their poll numbers while they are facing stiff competition from the remaining of the GOP field.
The 92-year-old Dole served in World War II, where he was a 2nd lieutenant in the Army’s 10th Mountain Division.
The young Bush said he was honored to have Dole’s support, saying he was a ‘huge Bob Dole fan’. But while giving Dole his very considerable due, I think most readers will seek political advice elsewhere.
It is sad to see the effects of age on a man who truly was once an extremely powerful political animal.
Bush also earned the endorsement from another Republican establishment losing candidate, former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. Marco Rubio, a candidate who has focused his entire campaign around representing the next generation of Republican politics.
