Davis was wrong in initially denying marriage licenses after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled same-sex couples have a right to marry throughout the country under the federal Constitution. That vote put her in the chair her own Democratic mom had filled for 37 years.
Davis also said she did not foresee a problem with the current marriage licenses being issued by her office in Morehead, Kentucky.
A born again Christian, Davis attempted and failed miserably to convince a federal judge she was unable factually to issue the marriage licenses to lesbian and gay couples who want to legally marry.
However, Davis could now find herself back in court after Mason alleges that she changed the paperwork to remove the name of the county, his job title, and the space for his signature. Liberty Counsel represents Davis in her legal battles.
The stance has produced Davis and the issuance of marriage licenses to exact same-sex couples in Kentucky and other states the newest focus in a lengthy-running debate more than gay marriage in the United States. That, some political observers said, was an effort by conservative Republicans to point out the hypocrisy within the Democratic Party.
Cruz and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, both GOP presidential candidates, appeared at a rally to support her and issued strong statements advocating her right to refuse marriage licenses as a matter of conscience and religious liberty.
Davis was elected Rowan County clerk last fall as a Democrat. “So why are we hanging on?” They really must have thought I was insane in there’.
The clerk continued to say in the Reuter’s report that she is more than willing to serve government penance by returning to a jail cell rather than comply with the law. She said the subject of Syria had been raised informally on the sidelines of the nuclear negotiations that ended in July but never in a structured way. Alabama probate judge Nick Williams is one of them. “No way”, she said. It is a fight worth fighting for’.
The president of the Family Research Council, Tony Perkins, announced Davis as the 2015 victor of the “Cost of Discipleship Award” for her determined resistance to same-sex marriage.
