The 19-year-old guard played in the Las Vegas Summer League over the weekend and notched 11 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds in a loss to the Boston Celtics. When asked if his recent stretch of games wearing sneakers not made by his family’s Big Baller Brand was an endorsement audition, he responded by saying, “Something like that”. On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Lakers point guard ditched his own Big Baller Brand Z02’s, and chose to pay a little tribute to Lakers legend Kobe Bryant by switching over to some all-purple Nike kicks. When asked why he chose to change shoes every game, Lonzo Ball had an interesting answer.
“Big Baller Brand, you’ve got freedom to do whatever you want”, Ball said on the ESPN broadcast after the game.
This certainly seems like part of a long-term play by LaVar and Lonzo. But he still hadn’t played in them.

While Ball was “held” to only five assists in his first game, he has completely shifted the Lakers’ dynamic on both sides of the floor in his latter three.
The reigning ACC freshman of the year also had seven rebounds and two assists. Maybe the shoe just isn’t that comfortable on him yet. Nike Kobe’s work too, but those 36 points are hard to argue with. Maybe he really did just want to switch it up.

For just a moment there Corey Webster looked set to inspire something special from the Dallas Mavericks as they came roaring back in the fourth quarter to make a game of their NBA Summer League semifinal against Lonzo Ball and the LA Lakers. There’s always comparisons of the great players in this league.
The rookie summer showdown between Dennis Smith Jr. and Lonzo Ball did not disappoint – at least for a half.
Defying long odds, Lonzo Ball is actually cashing the checks his father’s mouth so willingly signed over the last several months.
“Coming off the ball screens, it was kind of open lane”, Ball said.
