A third series of questions designed to gauge levels of concern on points raised against the deal led to a final result in which American Jews opposed it 58-30.
UJA-Federation and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, declined to sponsor the rally, as both comprise diverse and divided membership across the political spectrum.
“Strange set at NBC News with graphics that tag “Meet the Press” graffiti on White House wall”, Drudge tweeted. He directed his followers to the left-leaning explainer site Vox.com, which has a nasty habit of oversimplifying events in the effort to guide readers toward a preferred liberal conclusion.
Indeed, J Street’s past positions on Iran’s race for nuclear weapons capacity have proven demonstrably wrong. The decaying Soviet economy could not support an arms race or maintain tolerable conditions without credit and support from the United States.
I doubt that many folks have read the 100 plus page text or the five detailed annexes, let alone followed the tick tock over the classified side agreements. How to explain the disparity? Her article continues with Iran’s support of terror and violence and non-adherence to prior agreements.
Why, yes. Who wouldn’t? “In exchange for limiting its nuclear program, Iran would receive gradual relief from US and global economic sanctions“.
“It is the mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to erase Israel from the map of the region”, said the Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It does not provide for “anytime, anywhere” inspections and could require a 24-day approval process, giving Iran time to remove evidence of violations.
When asked which assessment of the deal they agreed with more, 56% of respondents agreed more with the negative assessment vs. 33% who agreed more with the positive assessment of the deal. Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee showed the dangers of unchecked outrage when he suggested that in brokering the Iran deal, President Obama “will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven”. It also claimed that by improving relations with Moscow it would be better able to protect us personally and to ensure that some Jews could emigrate each year.
One other note on J-Street, Friday afternoon after we recorded our interview with Alon Pinkas, Americans for Peace and Tolerance (APT), an interfaith organization, called for J-Street to be ejected from the Jewish Community, because it has expressed statements of support on the Iran deal with the National Iranian American Council and the Arab American Institute groups that are considered anti-Israel. It suffers from the same shortcomings as does the Washington Post/ABC News poll.
Initially, before any other questions were asked about the Iran deal, Jews opposed it 45-40. “The worldwide Atomic Energy Agency would monitor Iran’s facilities and if Iran was caught breaking the agreement, the current economic sanctions would be imposed again”.
Meanwhile, celebrities have been throwing their support behind the deal. Only 38 percent remained unthinking and recalcitrant. 43 percent approved. “But it is also likely that those who are highly connected to Israel become a target of anti-Semitic or anti-Israel sentiment because they make their support for Israel known”. They found strikingly different results. It also found that 81 percent of those surveyed knew “a lot” or “a little” about the agreement. Among the public overall, 63 percent lack confidence it will stop Iran from making nuclear weapons.
CNN confirmed Pew’s findings on Tuesday. The survey included Jews who said their religion was Jewish or who said they consider themselves Jewish.
