Russian Federation called for an emergency session of United Nations Security Council on Saturday.
“We can not allow the use of chemical weapons to become normalized – within Syria, on the streets of the United Kingdom, or anywhere else in our world”, May said, referring to a recent assassination attempt on a Russian double agent.
“We can not stand by as Russian Federation trashes every worldwide norm that we stand for”, Ms Haley said.
Trump says that last Saturday, Syrian President Bashar Assad deployed chemical weapons in what was a “significant escalation in a pattern of chemical weapons use by that very awful regime”. He said that the Syrian leader had launched a “savage” chemical weapons attack previously and again recently.
“A perfectly executed strike last night”, Trump tweeted Saturday.
He added: ‘Could not have had a better result.
“Last night, operations were very successful, we met our objectives, we hit the sites – the heart of the chem weapons program – so it was ‘mission accomplished, ‘” White said.
Secretary of Defense James Mattis said that the USA suffered no losses during the strikes, which “targeted the heart of Assad’s programs to develop and produce chemical weapons”.
The Pentagon said on April 14 that a joint US-British-French operation against Syria’s regime had “successfully hit every target”, countering assertions from Russian Federation that dozens of missiles were intercepted.
Nebenzia also said recent inspections by the UN’s Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons found no “traces of activity that would contravene the chemical weapons convention” at scientific research facilities targeted in the strikes.
British Prime Minister Theresa May is citing reports she says indicate the Syrian government used a barrel bomb to deliver the chemicals used in an attack on Douma.
He said the joint strikes showed that the US-led military coalition could not hinder the Syrians’ fight against terrorist groups.
French officials said the country faced a “double complexity” in carrying out operations: There was the more than 4,300-mile distance the French military traveled and then the synchronization required with allies.
A top Pentagon official, Lieutenant General Kenneth McKenzie, said the action would set back Syria’s chemical weapons program “for years” but he noted a “residual” element remained.
The missiles hit their targets within a minute or two of each other, McKenzie said, striking around 4:00 am Syrian time (0100 GMT). “I suspect, however, they’ll think long and hard about it”.
“What is the benefit of such an action by the West if it does not yield the immediate halting of all violence and crimes against the Syrian people”, said Raphael Pitti, a French doctor and activist.
Secretary of Defense James Mattis said at 10 p.m.
May on Saturday made her case for action in the face of opposition from much of the public and the Labour Party, saying in a further statement it was highly likely Assad’s regime had used chemical weapons.
Moscow denied its ally Assad had any role in the outrage, pushing a variety of alternative theories that peaked with a claim that Britain had staged the event.
Syria state TV, however, claimed that three civilians were wounded in Homs after “several” missiles were intercepted by Syrian air-defense systems. In what looked more like celebrations than protests, some danced alongside Syrian soldiers in the streets.
“Let them do what they want, kill who they want”.
“Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. It shot down American arrogance”. Until recently, the town was the last rebel stronghold in the area. Syrian internal security forces entered Douma on Saturday and were poised to declare their control over it within “hours”.
Macron says the operation is limited to Syria’s abilities to produce chemical weapons.
Mr Putin added that Russian military experts who inspected Douma found no trace of the attack.
“The attempts of Washington, London and Paris to undermine the activities of the OPCW mission are systematic”. Mr. Trump said. “The nations of the world can be judged by the friends they keep”.
A Russian-drafted resolution won three votes at the Security Council, far below the nine votes required for adoption.
Unlike the attack a year ago, in which American forces unilaterally fired cruise missiles at Syria, this latest assault was carried out in cooperation with US allies France and Britain.
