Tensing, who was jailed overnight Wednesday, was fired soon after the indictment was announced. He was freed around 6:30 p.m., county sheriff’s spokesman Mike Robison confirmed.
When Judge Megan Shanahan set bond at US$1 million ($1.5 million), people in the courtroom audience cheered and the judge rebuked them.
A body-camera video worn by Tensing showed the officer shooting the victim in the head as he sat behind his car’s steering wheel.
The case comes as the United States grapples with heightened racial tensions in the wake of a series of high-profile incidents of unarmed African Americans being killed by police in disputed circumstances.
DuBose’s death is the latest in a string of controversial killings of people by police that include Tamir Rice in Cleveland, Michael Brown in Ferguson, and Walter Scott in North Charleston, South Carolina.
Two University of Cincinnati police officers who witnessed fellow cop Ray Tensing fatally shoot unarmed black driver Sam DuBose will not face criminal charges.
Since the release of Tensing’s body camera video, two prevailing and conflicting accounts of what it actually shows have emerged.
The bodycam video shows Tensing approach the vehicle and ask DuBose for his license and registration. The video evidence played a major role in the prosecutors’ decision to charge Tensing. But there is no indication on the video of how he ended up on the ground.
However, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said Wednesday that Tensing’s claim was a lie and that Tensing had fallen backward after shooting DuBose in the head.
Kidd and Lindenschmidt were placed on leave Thursday amid protests calling for the DA to “charge the second officer”-meaning Kidd-with lying”. No telephone listing for Kidd could be found.
That as the University of Findlay moves toward creating its own police department, staffed with certified peace officers who will have full police powers.

His attorney, Stew Mathews, told reporters Tensing had feared for his life during the altercation with DuBose, so he drew his weapon. “This is, in the vernacular, a pretty chicken crap stop”.
DuBose died instantly, Deters said. They say it would limit investigations into road rage, retail theft and drunken driving.
Dubose’s family has hired noted attorney Mark O’Mara for legal assistance in this case.
