Blizzard’s latest Overwatch hero is perhaps the most intelligently designed yet, as Hammond the hyper-intelligent hamster pilots a giant gun-toting mech suit known as the Wrecking Ball. And he really is adorable! It’s safe to say that Overwatch has a ton of unique characters in its roster, but its latest hero might just be its most freaky one yet. The writing on the wall about “Building our future in Space” and “Horizon” was evidence towards the new hero being from the moon.
Wrecking Ball’s combination of tinkering and bruiser-style tanking should make the hero a very interesting addition to the roster. His ultimate ability is called Minefield, which deploys a plethora of explosives that detonate when enemies are within proximity. If this turns out to be true then Wrecking Ball will be the third hero from Australia after Roadhog and Junkrat. The legend of Hammond dates back to current Overwatch hero Winston’s backstory.
Intelligent animals are no stranger to the game as one of it’s most iconic characters, Winston, is a hyper-intelligent gorilla.
Create temporary personal shields. According to the story, it escaped from the Horizon Lunar Colony and started wandering together with Winston, another hero from the game. Overwatch describes Wrecking Ball as a genetically modified hamster who is both “witty and conniving”. And from what we’ve seen of the mech, it’s more than prepared to join the multi-player fight.
This hero certainly sounds like an idea out of left field, but there is kind of some precedent for it – just not from where you’d expect. But whether you’re wary about jumping into the PTR or are a PS4 or Xbox One player, you may not get to try him until he’s brought to the live game.
In a Twitter video titled “Champion Revealed”, Blizzard showed a spider-like robot unload on an enemy with massive turrets.
