DACA was created in 2012 by President Barack Obama to protect people who were brought into the United States as children and now live here illegally.
But Trump’s comments about Mexicans are a long way from establishing that bias motivated his decision to revoke DACA, said Kari Hong, an immigration expert at Boston College Law School. Between 6,000 to 7,000 people have crossed illegally across into Quebec from NY state since July, CBC News reported. I’ve met with senior members of this Administration who when I asked, had to confess they never met a Dreamer.
“Dreamers play by the rules”. The program also gave them the right to work legally in the United States.
“Barring renewals to the DACA program would force me from my job, and I would be made a priority for deportation”, he said.
Devin M. O’Malley, a Justice Department spokesman, said the agency looks forward to defending the administration’s position.
Earlier, Ryan said that Obama was wrong to create the deportation deferral program “because he overstepped his constitutional bounds” in authorizing it with an executive order rather than with legislation and Trump was “right in his decision” to overturn it.
Beyond the unsettling impact it will have on some 800,000 undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S.as children-the Dreamers, -the key words above are “effectuated under the Obama administration”, and are another example not only of Trump’s-mean-spirited hostility to certain ethnic groups but also of his overall goal of eradicating every semblance of the previous administration. Our DACA students have been, are, and will remain welcome and valued on our campus. Both schools are in MA.
When President Donald Trump announced the scrapping of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, better known as DACA, it put the future of close to 800,000 people in jeopardy, including thousands of Indian Americans.
Plaintiffs in the lawsuit are New York, Massachusetts, Washington, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia.
The fifteen states that sued on Wednesday did not include California – a solidly Democratic state with a large immigrant population. Even before Tuesday’s announcement on the DACA wind-down, Republicans had introduced several measures that would provide some kind of legalization for DACA recipients, ranging from temporary work authorization to a path to full citizenship.
But Trump’s decision to end DACA-as well as his stepped-up immigration enforcement, stalled attempts to block Muslims from entering the country and statements defending white supremacists in Charlottesville-have Velazquez noticing parallels between her community and America’s founding fathers. They called DACA an unconstitutional abuse of executive power.
Zuckerberg did not say specifically whether Facebook plans to lobby for the same approach, but said he recognized the need to make “trade offs”. This suggests that, as a group, they contribute more to the broader economy than the average immigrant worker.
