SEATTLE A Seattle high school football player has died after he was injured in a game Friday.
Highline Public Schools spokeswoman Catherine Carbone Rogers said wide receiver and defensive back Kenney Bui was operated on after being transported to Harborview Medical Center. The injury occurred at Highline Memorial Field in the fourth quarter. Family members requested privacy.
David Young, a senior at Adna (Chehalis, Wash.), suffered a broken bone in his neck, coach K.C. Johnson told The Seattle Times, and is in serious condition.
He was among two high-school students seriously injured in separate games Friday night.
The Times reports both injuries happened while players were making tackles. Both schools are in the Highline School District.
A spokesperson with Harborview Medical Center confirmed that Kenny Bui passed away shortly before noon, Monday.
Mike Colbrese, executive director of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, said the WIAA’s hearts and thoughts are with the family and the community.
The injuries come just a week after a player from Pateros High School collapsed during a football game.
