Who would be the biggest upset?
Earnhardt Jr. finished 25th at the Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday in the Ford EcoBoost 400.
“A lot of it was for (Pollex)”. He’s been the most dominant Cup driver all year and on Sunday will try to win the championship. It was retaliation for Hamlin wrecking Elliott out of the lead at Martinsville earlier in the playoffs. But labeling that an upset might be a stretch. The turning point came with just under 20 laps to go when Sadler got by Byron, when the rookie got into the wall. Keselowski, just based on how the team has run, would definitely rank as the biggest upset.
“There was one person over the course of the winter that told me this was going to be a lot harder than I thought it was going to be”, Stewart said Friday. It was the second championship appearance for Truex and the No. 78 team. However, due to the change in format, those points didn’t matter in the race today. That’s a simple reality that comes late in a driver’s career. Keselowski was 172.452. And Harvick was 171.876. He’s going out a winner! I did not feel any pressure.
“I was glad to have a hand in getting his career started, I am so proud of him”, Earnhardt said. To win, Truex had to finish better than the other playoff contenders, Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski and Kevin Harvick and he did!
Oh yeah, back to that championship thing.
Pollex reminded Truex of how far they’ve come when she embraced him. Denny should win a title before his career is over. “I can’t believe it”.
Earnhardt also opened up about the beginnings of his career, when he stepped out as a racer in the shadow of his late father, Dale Earnhardt Sr., a seven-time NASCAR champion.
“I don’t know how we won that thing”, Truex said. He’s go or blow. “That’s just the guy he is”. “We’ve seen it so many times, the best car doesn’t always win, best team doesn’t always win”.
Pockrass: No and yes.
It’s one race, and anything can happen. Hamlin will win one. Johnson will win an eighth.
“He was voted most likely to be a mannequin in a gift shop”, Fallon says of Truex. But with Erik Jones leaving for Joe Gibbs Racing, Furniture Row Racing sold the charter for the No. 77 team and there’s no plan to run a second car next year.
Truex declined that offer, the car being a therapeutic place for him, even when it ran like a ton of bricks. Truex next won on July 9 in Kentucky in the Quaker State 400. He has earned the respect of his peers. He suffered a heart attack two weeks ago and is sidelined in Colorado.
Earnhardt was also set to pose for team photos with friend Matt Kenseth, also on his way out of NASCAR. People who tell me they’re rooting against Truex are nuts. I’m not the same driver.
Truex hit 171.195 mph on Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the best of the four championship drivers.
Truex led nearly every statistical category this year, including wins, laps led and stage victories.
