1.2 million Skoda diesel cars were fitted with pollution-cheating software
Volkswagen Danmark revealed today it was looking into the situation that has left a few 11 million Volkswagen cars worldwide with software that has made it possible to hide the cars’ actual pollution levels during emissions testing.
Winterkorn, replaced as chief executive on Friday by company veteran Matthias Mueller, said when he quit last week that he was not aware of any wrongdoing on his part and wanted to give the company a new start.
A total of 984,064 cars have been sold in France in recent years that were involved in the scandal that has rocked the automobile industry. Also affected are 393,000 Audis, nearly 77,000 Seats and 131,500 Skodas.
The Volkswagen Group distributor in Portugal says it sold 94,400 vehicles fitted with a diesel engine that can cheat on emissions tests.
Volkswagen and Skoda Auto technicians are working on a solution that could reside in adjustment of the problem software and of mechanical components. There have also been shadows cast on the 3.0-litre V6 diesel engines on whether they have also been equipped with the emissions beating software.
SIVA, which represents several brands in Portugal, including Skoda and Audi, said in an official statement on its website that cars equipped with Euro 5 motors will be affected, Xinhua reported on Wednesday.
