1 dead, 3 injured in Cape motorcycle crash
Yarmouth Police responded to reports of a crash invovling two motorcycles near the intersection of Route 28 and Old Main Street in South Yarmouth early Friday morning.
Both riders were thrown off the bike, according to Deputy Chief of Police Steven Xiarhos. One of them, 48-year-old Bruce Fernandes of Pascoag, Rhode Island, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1:10 a.m. crash.
“The Yarmouth Police Department extends our condolences to the Fernandes family”, Yarmouth police said in a statement. Scott Fernandes and Tessier were also thrown from their bike. Bruce Fernandes died of his injuries. Officers began CPR at the scene and Yarmouth firefighters took over when they arrived. His passenger, who is also his daughter, 24-year-old Brittany Fernandes, was transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
Police do not yet know whether the crash, the cardiac arrest, or some other factor caused his death.
Two other people involved in the crash were taken to Cape Cod Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Crime Scene Services Section conducted an investigation.
