1 dead, another missing after boat crash off Catalina Island
The Coast Guard is searching for a missing boater off Catalina Island after two vessels collided, killing one person and injuring three others.
The incident was reported just before 1:30 a.m. near Descanso Bay, about a quarter-mile northeast of Casino Point, U.S. Coast Guard Spokeswoman SondraKay Kneen said. The smaller boat, described as a dinghy, was carrying five passengers. Three passengers are injured and one remains missing.
The Coast Guard says the injured boaters were taken by helicopter to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
Kneen said one of the injured passengers sustained a head injury, while the the other two suffered only minor injuries.
No injuries or missing persons were reported from the other vessel involved.
The Coast Guard says first responders were coordinating search efforts at Casino Point.
Deputies from the Emergency Services Detail have also responded to the scene, according to a news release from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
