1 injured in Wisconsin mall shooting on busy shopping day
Initial reports say that the shots appeared to have been fired inside the mall between Boston Store and the Hallmark Store at 2:50 p.m., local time, Saturday.
The one injured is a 19-year-old man and is being said he was involved in the dispute.
According to Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain, the shooting took place just before 3 p.m.at the East Towne Mall in Madison on one of the busiest shopping days ahead of Christmas. He was transported to a hospital with a non life-threatening wound, he said.
“This is not an active shooter”.
Witnesses told police that several young men were involved in a “disturbance” in the middle of the mall.
DeSpain also said that a mall employee’s leg was hit by a bullet that had ricocheted, though the worker was unscathed.
Shopper Evan Flood said he saw a heated argument among about 15 people and a couple of punches were thrown.
The victim, who was taken out on a stretcher, was a part of the original dispute.
The mall has since been declared secure by police and reopened to the public. The report also adds that officials from the Madison Police Department are on the scene of a reported. The FBI is investigating the case as an act of terrorism.
