1 man dead, 1 arrested after shooting in north Minneapolis
At about 4 p.m., protesters marched through stores inside Lloyd Center.
Police say they made at least two arrests and one officer suffered a dislocated shoulder when the crowd interfered with an arrest at the Pacific Place shopping area.
Black Friday protests and boycotts take place all over the country.
All previous marches have been largely peaceful. Police officers guarding the Christmas tree would make flippant remarks that their batons were “dancing sticks” and parents would bemoan not being able to enter the mall -(despite news and press conferences announcing the large protest for the past two days).
The annual tree-lighting ceremony proceeded on schedule, through protesters’ chants often drowned out the musical performers. He died the next day.
Shoppers seemed to take the disturbance in stride, with some even snapping photos of the crowd.
House Majority Leader Joyce Peppin said she’s anxious about overloading an agenda. They found a man dead with a gunshot wound inside, and arrested another man inside the house.
“Everyone out here is getting their consumerism on and not paying attention to the things that matter”, said protester Jessica Smart.
Before long, the tense scene gave way to a less-confrontational demonstration.
The outpouring in Seattle echoed similar events in cities from Portland to Cincinnati.
Protesters were calling for change and social justice in light of the shootings.
Over the past year, protests against killings of unarmed black men and women – some videotaped with phones or police cameras – have rocked a number of USA cities.
Minneapolis police say one man is dead and another is in custody after a shooting at a home in north Minneapolis.
Belton said the vigil should end to “restore order” to the community, which he said has endured open gunfire, traffic and service interruptions, smoke from the protesters’ fires and hours of helicopter noise.
A police union representative has said Clark grabbed one officer’s gun, although the weapon remained in its holster. Guyott said she came downtown to “put my white body on the line” by protesting.
“It just went through muscle…I don’t care if I be in a wheelchair”, he said.
