1 person killed, others injured in NE Minnesota storms

The brother of Rep. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) was killed Sunday night when violent storms swept through northern Minnesota. One of the boys “suffered significant injuries”, the sheriff’s office reported, although they didn’t specify which boy.

The National Weather Service says the storm Sunday night ripped a roof off a shed in the Stearns County community of Cold Spring.
“As soon as the winds came up, they were trying to get to a safer area away from the trees”, Sandstrom said.
The injured person was transferred by ambulance to Cook County North Shore Hospital and Care Center in Grand Marais, where he was met by a medical helicopter for further transfer.
The injured boy was taken to a hospital and then airlifted to Duluth; there was no immediate word on his condition.
In St. Louis County, three people with the outdoor education program Outward Bound were injured in an indirect lightning strike near Crooked Lake, according to the sheriff’s department.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office responded to two separate calls shortly before 10:30 p.m. One was reporting one person dead and another severely injured after trees fell on a campsite on Duncan Lake. He was eventually reached by rescuers and taken to an area hospital via ambulance.
Three people suffered injuries ranging from superficial burns to temporary loss of consciousness, while everyone in the group complained of numbness. The tree pushed the roof of the house down on top of those inside, and they became trapped.
