1 shot dead inside Las Vegas Starbucks
Homicide detective Lt. Dan McGrath of the Las Vegas Police Department told reporters that the suspect got into a dispute with someone inside the restaurant and shot them. That suspect was quickly taken into custody.
Reporters said that a male victim who appeared to have been shot in the chest was taken from the scene and later died at Spring Valley Hospital.
They searched the suspect’s vehicle and a backpack but found nothing unsafe, McGrath said.
According to McGrath, between 12 and 14 customers and employees were inside at the time.
Someone at the scene made a comment about a possible explosive device, prompting authorities to seal off the area around the Starbucks so bomb experts could be brought in.
Police was one person has been detained in connection with this investigation and the surrounding businesses are being evacuated.
Several nearby businesses have been evacuated and an area intersection has been closed. Authorities are treating his incident as a hostage/barricade situation.
Rainbow Boulevard was blocked off at Warm Springs until just before 3 p.m., when police allowed the north-south thoroughfare to be reopened to traffic.
A SWAT vehicle was also observed at the scene.
