10 dead after 2 explosions rock Istanbul airport

Early reports suggest up to three shooters stormed the airport security area with guns blazing before blowing themselves up. Witnesses also reported hearing gunshots.
Dozens of police, medics and fire brigades have been sent to the scene of the incident and the airport has been shutdown.
The official said Tuesday it was unclear whether the explosions were caused by bombs or a suicide attack.
Almost 50 people have been killed in an attack on the main airport in Istanbul, a senior Turkish official has told the Associated Press. CNN reports 60 injured.
Witnesses told CNN taxis were ferrying wounded to the hospital.
– The Ataturk airport is closed until Wednesday at 8 p.m. local time (noon ET), according to airport spokesman Erhan Ustundag.
Almost 42 million passengers and 313,000 flights went through Ataturk in 2015, according to the Turkish State Airports Authority.

Mr Cameron, in Brussels for what is likely to be his final European Union summit meeting with fellow leaders, said the United Kingdom would continue to work with the other countries after Brexit on “keeping our countries safe, keeping our people safe – and it’s particularly important to say that tonight again when there has been another ugly terrorist attack in Turkey”.
Controlling movement across Turkish borders has been a concern in the fight against worldwide terrorism, particularly the Islamic State. They are also discussing migration via Turkey to the EU.
Turkey, which is part of the USA -led coalition against Islamic State, is also fighting Kurdish militants in its largely Kurdish southeast. The country has already been hit with two attacks this month. It is not known if the policeman or anyone were killed by this device.
While no official claim has been made by ISIS it comes on the second anniversary of the Islamic State Caliphate.
He says “This is daily fare and that’s why I say the first challenge we need to face is countering non-state, violent actors”.
While it’s not yet confirmed who’s responsible for the bombing, police sources suspect ISIS is to blame.
– There has been no immediate claim of responsibility.
