10-year-old girl survives shark attack, saves pal
A 10-year-old girl in Florida is being credited with helping a friend despite being bitten by a shark.
Her father, Dave Szarmack, went through a series of mixed feelings when he saw his daughter coming out of the water.
“We all ran in and that little 6-year-old, she wasn’t fast enough”. Szarmack is expected to make a full recovery.
The victim was bitten in the right leg near her knee, according to authorities.
Although she was severely injured, the small hero made a decision to get back in the 4-feet deep water and rescue her 6-year-old friends, who could have been killed by the shark.
ABC News reported that Kaley was rushed to the hospital after the shark attack with several large lacerations. Firefighters said the girl was standing in about to 4 feet of water when she was reportedly bitten by the shark, which her mother guessed to be about 3 feet long.
“You see all kinds of things as a fireman, but when you see your baby, even if it was a little blood, but this was, to see it, I was just, it was really hard to see”, said Dave. “Kaley is doing awesome”. She is recovering great. “90 stitches!”
The young girl said she felt the shark biting her leg but managed to get away and out of the water.
