100 per cent hike on Green Tax for commercial vehicles entering Delhi
The interim rule will have immediate effect till 31 March, 2016.
It directed all taxis operating in Delhi and neighbouring provinces to convert to the less polluting compressed natural gas, or CNG, by March 31st.
In a bid to make the ban on the registration of the diesel vehicles effective the neighbouring states too should impose a similar ban, the Delhi government told the Supreme Court on Wednesday. The court has also agreed to ban entry of trucks registered before 2005 in the national capital region and increase the green tax for trucks entering the national capital.
It has also raised the inexperienced cess levied on business cars coming into Delhi by 100% and informed the imperative authorities to offer masks to all traffic policemen, observing that they’re the worst-affected by the pollution.

The Supreme Court of India has passed an order banning the registration of diesel cars with engine capacities larger than 2,000cc till March 31, 2016.
The court yesterday also asked the counsel representing the Centre and the Delhi government to come out with comprehensive long- and short-term plans to curb air pollution.
The petition seeking modification was filed by five auto dealers – Koncept Automobiles (Lajpat Nagar), Koncept Cars India Pvt Ltd (Green Park), Ford-Rain Automotive India (Mathura Road), Hana Motor Plaza Pvt Ltd (Mathura Road) and Nath Motors Pvt Ltd (Mathura Road)- engaged in sale of vehicles of Mahindra & Mahindra, Hyundai, Honda and Ford.

Salve said the court’s orders will have to be followed notwithstanding the directions of any court or tribunal. “Technically speaking, diesel cars emit much less Carbon dioxide than petrol cars”.
Around 23 per cent of the cars registered in Delhi are diesel. In a series of significant orders with aim to tackle air pollution, the court banned the entry of trucks which are more than ten years old in Delhi.
It had also supported the AAP Government’s recent decision to restrict cars in Delhi based on the odd-even scheme, which had been at the receiving end of a great deal of criticism.
