1000hp electric powered concept vehicle unveiled
The FFZero1 by Faraday Future is displayed at CES Unveiled, a media preview event for CES International Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, in Las Vegas.
The US-based company is funded, in part at least, by Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting.
Sampson said the difference is that Faraday will be designing only electric cars unlike other car-makers that might have to spend more time redesigning a model to fit a hybrid engine, V6 or V8. The company can certainly raise money and make promises with little difficulty, but that’s a long way from putting an electric vehicle in your driveway. The company has also provided financial aid to Atieva, another EV start-up in California.
The concept also has an augmented reality system to assist the driver, but there was no indication given of it making it into the final production vehicle. Its ties with China open up that country’s fast-growing, second-largest EV market in which others, including Tesla Motors, have struggled.
“The FFZERO1 Concept is an amplified version of the design and engineering philosophies informing FF’s forthcoming production vehicles”, FF head of design Richard Kim said in a statement.
Moreover, FF plans to break ground on the new solar-powered factory in a matter of weeks.
Externally, the bodywork is styled around an “air tunnel” design, necessary for cooling the battery packs, while the rear fin can be used as an electronic display to show information such as the driver’s name. They focus on the notion of a clean, possibly electric next-generation vehicle for a new age that includes shared transportation. It’s built around a “skateboard-style” chassis that can be adjusted according to the size of the battery, which replace the single power source with strings of batteries to change the power and range of the vehicle.
Prior to Faraday Future, Harris worked for Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
Faraday Future, based in the Los Angeles suburb of Gardena, has been hiring a cadre of auto executives, including some from Tesla. And it has some 750 working on its vehicle projects, including many recruited from traditional automakers and Silicon Valley. Faraday has already gone on record stating that the concept will show its “vision for the future of mobility”, and what’s to say that vision couldn’t be the future of enthusiast performance driving?
