11 injured after roller coaster derails in Scotland
The theme park said there had been a “serious incident” and it was closed “until further notice”. “We can confirm there are injured parties – approximately seven people”.
THREE children are in a serious condition in hospital after a rollercoaster derailed at the popular M&Ds theme park in Lanarkshire.
Around two dozen park visitors struggled to fix the carriage which ended up upside down and leaving riders trapped.
A man who gave first aid to children at the scene said at least eight people, mainly children aged between ten and 15, had been injured.
Witness Katie Burns said she had just ridden the coaster before it crashed, according to Sky News.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Emergency services are at the scene dealing with the incident at M&Ds theme park”.
“People were crying with shock”, she said. “Honestly never been so scared in my life”.
According to the park’s website, the Tsunami roller coaster reaches speeds of up to 40 miles per hour through corkscrew turns and loops.
This chilling footage shows the moment directly after a roller coaster is thought to have derailed and smashed headfirst to the ground 30ft below.
“I could see that there was lots of people trapped – probably up to 10 – and I saw a girl upside down, stuck”.
Children under 10 are not allowed to use the ride, and those under 14 must be accompanied by a paying adult.
According to the Metro, a spokesman for Police Scotland said: ‘We can confirm we are now working with other emergency services to ascertain the full extent of the situation.
