11 killed, many injured in Jharkhand temple stampede
An official said that around 4:30 AM a group of devotees broke the line and started running and it led to stampede.
At least 11 people were killed and over 50 injured following a stampede at a temple in Belabagan locality in Deoghar district of Jharkhand in the wee hours of Monday morning. Six people died and other four are being treated at a near by hospital as they sustained some injuries.
The festival dedicated to Lord Shiva sees tens of thousands of people participating in a month-long event.
The temple town is almost 255 km south of Bihar capital Patna.
Deadly stampedes are common during Indian religious festivals, which attract large crowds with few safety measures in place.
In October 2013, a stampede in Madhya Pradesh state in central India killed more than 110 people, mostly women and children.
