11-year-old ‘bully’ murdered 8-year-old neighbor with a shotgun after dispute
An 11-year-old boy in Tennessee shot and killed his next door neighbor, an 8-year-old girl, over an argument about a puppy Saturday, police said. She said the girl, McKayla, told the boy “no” and the boy then shot her.
McCoig says the young girl’s next-door neighbor used his father’s 12-gauge single-shot shotgun to shoot and kill the girl from inside his house. Deputies called to the scene Saturday in White Pine found McKayla on the ground with a chest wound.
The girl was taken by ambulance to Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System, where she was pronounced dead. “He was making fun of her, calling her names, just being mean to her. I had to go to the principal about him, and he quit for a while”.
“(He) asked the little girl if he could see her puppy.
“No mother should have to bury her baby”, Chasity Arwood said outside of her White Pine home Sunday.
“When we first moved to White Pine, the little boy was bullying Maykayla”, she said.
“The 11-year-old did intentionally shoot the 8-year-old from inside his home”, McCoig said.
A day after the shooting, a piece of cardboard covered the broken window of the boy’s rusty family home.
The boy was charged in juvenile court, but a judge will later decide whether to transfer his case to adult court.
McCoig said the shooting took place in a neighborhood where the children all knew each other and played together. Our problem with our country now is that we’re not stepping in and being good parents. “A hug by this sweet girl was equal or greater than winning the lottery”.
