12 things that lasted longer than Scaramucci’s White House gig
By Monday afternoon, Kelly was meeting with staff again, this time without Priebus.
But Kelly’s first day on the job was a disaster.
And current staff remain aware of the man in the Oval Office. More structure. Better briefings and information for the president. But it looks like chaos from the outside, particularly with Trump’s approval ratings tanking and with the White House still stinging from the Obamacare repeal-and-replace debacle.
But Monday’s swearing in of Kelly, paired with the dramatic fall of Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, signaled that efforts were underway, with the president’s blessing, to stop the madness that had engulfed the White House and instead impose some order on a previously untamable West Wing. Scaramucci would still have to work in the same West Wing as Bannon.
Sanders said Trump has given full authority to Kelly, and he’ll make determinations inside the White House.
Kelly fostered a reputation as an outspoken commander who didn’t shy away from unpopular opinions during his military career.
Kelly’s first day established a sharp contrast with his predecessor, Priebus, who was frequently undermined by colleagues with direct access to the president.
Not only did the notorious White House leaks continue under Kelly’s command, but the chaotic nature of the Trump administration also seemed to be ratcheted up. He encourages his staff to fight among themselves and to report only to him. I obviously love the country.
Congressman Richard Neal (D-Springfield) told 22News there is a bigger problem at the White House.
He compared Scaramucci to “the song of the summer” and that he “came into our lives, made everyone obsessed with him for like a week” and “left us with nothing but memories and a bunch of weird moves”, which was a reference to his numerous hand gestures. But the decision to remove him came at Kelly’s request, the people said.
And after realizing that “the Mooch” follows Kimmel on Twitter, the host said he was able to snag an interview with the former White House aide.
“The whole question is how Trump treats this. If it’s a new crew to put blame on, then we’ll know that soon too”, Dean added. But his quick ouster may be a sign that Trump is getting serious about putting his own house in order. In early March, Bharara was one of 46 U.S. attorneys originally appointed by President Barack Obama who were asked to resign.
“I’m not Steve Bannon, I’m not trying to suck my own c***”, the report further quoted him as saying.
Leon Panetta helped bring discipline to an unruly first term of the Clinton administration and guided the Democrat through his reelection bid.
And attempts to curtail the president from weighing in on news of day, especially as it pertained to allegations of collusion with Russian Federation, were greeted repeatedly with defiant tweets.
Every administration has grappled with how to organize the hierarchy in staff at the White House.
When asked about Scaramucci’s departure on Monday, Sanders refused to be drawn about the details, but did say that Trump believed his remarks to The New Yorker were “inappropriate”. “He instinctively likes to be his own chief of staff and he’s a pretty very bad one”. Yet, as homeland security secretary, Kelly has lashed out at critics. Kelly was formally sworn into the position on Monday morning.
Kelly, whose son was killed in Afghanistan, was a combat-decorated, four-star Marine Corps general much respected by his troops and peers.
Of course, these are the people the president likes, or liked.
Those results have given the Trump administration, which has largely been unable to gain traction on health care and other issues, one of the few areas in which it can claim success.
According to the CNN sources, Comey talked Kelly out of quitting. I think it’s a good time to hit the reset button.
Kelly’s second task will be to restore strategic direction to Trump’s haphazard policy-making process. No name is more bold-faced that Trump’s in Trump World.
“The President wanted to go a different direction”, Priebus told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room” Friday evening.
Boris Epshteyn, a former Trump campaign surrogate who joined the White House to lead its TV surrogate operations, was the third resignation and fourth departure overall. Trump refused at first, but agreed when Kelly insisted.
Trump attorney Jay Sekulow said Monday night of the Post story, “Apart from being of no outcome, the characterizations are misinformed, inaccurate and not pertinent”.
