14 mn computers now running Windows 10
Microsoft itself is trumpeting that more than 14 million computer users were running Windows 10 within 24 hours of its release.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has made Edge the default browser in its latest operating system and Mozilla isn’t pleased with that.
PR reports that users coming from a “clean 8.1” install with the Windows 10 upgrade stopped at around 91 percent.
The company assured users who reserved their upgrades that they would be notified once the operating system has been downloaded to their PCs.
To ensure that its browser works well with Windows 10, Mozilla is making a number of updates to its next build of Firefox, according to Mayo.
So, as of now, by looking at the numbers, Microsoft still has a long way to go to reach its goal of getting Windows 10 on to a billion devices within three years. It features a redesigned Start menu, which brings together the Windows 7 navigation panel with “live tiles” from Windows 8, and a new web browser called Edge. But most importantly, the update is primarily delivered over the air and not in special discs or USB flash drives, which increases Windows 10’s accessibility. Mozilla had earlier made a quite few attempts to convince Microsoft to keep the same preference for browsers while upgrading to Windows 10.
“We’re humbled and grateful to see the response to Windows 10“, the company wrote on its Windows blog. All that button will do is open up the Windows 10 default settings.
Those who do upgrade during the free period will have the OS free forever, including all subsequent updates.
Microsoft has yet to announce when the update for Windows 10 Mobile will be available for download.
If you’re a personal user, not a corporate one, Windows 10 Enterprise edition has some drawbacks for your because it misses some key features like Cortana, Mail, Calendar, People, Photos and Windows Store. Microsoft encourages people to share how they plan to #UpgradeYourWorld and to vote for a global nonprofit to receive a cash donation by simply mentioning the nonprofit in a post on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter and using the hashtags #UpgradeYourWorld and #vote.
