As stunned communities mourn victims of a massacre in Southern California, more details are emerging about the 14 people killed this week. Investigators announced Friday that they were treating the attack as a terrorist act motivated by Islamic extremism.
Authorities said the names of other victims may be released Thursday.
Earlier Thursday, the victim’s wife told the LA Times that she was unaware of any friction between her husband and Farook.
What was that faith?
– Nicholas Thalasinos, 52, of Colton.
Thalasinos’ friend, Kuuleme Stephens, told The Associated Press that she happened to call him while he was working with Farook, and that he brought her into their debate, loudly declaring that Farook “doesn’t agree that Islam is not a peaceful religion”. I didn’t know a better person.
Tamishia Clayborn, who identified herself as Clayborn’s sister in a Facebook message, wrote: “RIP Baby sis I love you more than you ever knew”. The couple were Messianic Jews.
Fourteen people were killed while attending a holiday party for employees of the San Bernardino County Department of Health on Wednesday, officials said, and 21 people were injured. “Their whole world has been changed”, Amy said. Thalasinos moved to California after meeting his wife, who works as a teacher.
He ALSO assumes I’m a JEW – a great Compliment, I should keep him around for that reason alone!
On a sidewalk several blocks from the shooting scene, Van Nguyen sat on the pavement late Thursday morning, sobbing, as loved ones formed a wall around her. Nguyen’s daughter, Tin Nguyen, 31, of Santa Ana, in Orange County, was one of the 14 people killed in Wednesday’s shooting, the family said.
Thalasinos referred to himself as a Zionist and often posted pro-Israel messages.
In a related story, Jennifer Thalasinos told the New York Times that her husband had worked alongside and been friendly with Syed Rizwan Farook, identified as the shooter in the rampage. She said he loved animals so much they had a “menagerie” of pets – iguanas, dogs, finches, and a cat.
“She was blooming from day one that I met her and, until last day, until yesterday I saw her and she went, she was just an angel”, Verdehyou said at a vigil.
After the shooting, Nicholas Thalasinos’ Facebook page was flooded with expressions of condolence and grief, with many posts memorializing him with Kaddish, the Jewish prayer for the dead.
“I love hanging out with friends and I love my blooming career in public and environmental health”, Clayborn wrote on her Facebook page.
