Five women exploded their suicide bombs in the Chibok hometown of Nigeria’s kidnapped schoolgirls on Wednesday, killing nine people and wounding 32, witnesses said.
At least a dozen people were killed following suicide attacks in Nigeria’s northeastern state of Borno, security sources and a rescue team coordinator said Wednesday.
“Today, they opened the market and we lost eight people at a spot with over 30 hospitalized”.
According to an AFP tally, more than 1,650 people have been killed since Buhari came to power in May previous year, vowing to crush the insurgency, which has left at least 17,000 dead since 2009.
As said by the security officers, the other two suspected suicide bombers, which are yet to be detained, immediately fled the scene. The message said the attacks on Bodo village targeted “gatherings of the militias allied with the army operating on the border with Nigeria”.
Last week, four worshippers were killed in a suicide bombing at a mosque in the northern village of Nguetchewe, just days after a similar attack on another mosque in the Far North killed 12.
Almost two years ago 200 girls were kidnapped from Chibok, the whereabouts of the girls still remains a mystery.
