16-year-old charged with sending threatening tweets about Marist College
Marist College, a small private school 84 miles north of NY City, canceled classes and ordered a lockdown on Friday because of an online, anonymous posting that threatened a shooting on campus, a Marist spokesman said.
The teen, a city of Poughkeepsie resident, was charged with the felony of making a terroristic threat, a felony, police said. The first tweet sent at about 6 a.m. was general in nature, but police said the second one hours later was specific.
Police say they’re working with Twitter, college officials and other law enforcement agencies.
Employees and students living off campus were told not to come to campus.
“Marist’s main campus is closed as authorities investigate an online threat”, the alert read. Detectives worked with Twitter to track down who posted the messages on Twitter.
