2 children found dead in Northern California storage unit
Huntsman is allegedly the biological mother of the twins, and an aunt to the 9-year-old girl.
As KSBW reports from the Central Coast, 39-year-old Tami Joy Huntsman may have had temporary custody of the three children, who were all siblings, and investigators were lead to an apartment in East Salinas where she and 17-year-old Gonzalo Curiel had recently lived.
“The bodies were discovered as authorities investigated the abuse of a third child, according to a police statement released Monday”.
Sheriff’s officials then arrested a 17-year-old boy and a 39-year-old woman on suspicion of felony child abuse, torture and mayhem.
Redding is around 140 miles northwest of Quincy.
When they arrived, they found the girl in a vehicle – almost frozen to death and with multiple injuries, including bones that had been broken for quite some time. “This led to the discovery of two deceased [children] inside a storage unit in the city of Redding” said Plumas County Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Peay.
On Friday, authorities found the 9-year-old on the floorboard of a locked Toyota 4Runner near a Quincy home.
Huntsman and the teen are recent residents of Salinas.
Two people were arrested Monday in connection to the death of two toddlers and the abuse of a child, the Redding Police Department said.
Hagwood said they are still investigating the relationship between Huntsman, Curiel and all the children.
It’s unknown how long the children’s bodies may have had been in the storage unit.
Each is jailed on $1 million bail.
NBC News reported Tuesday that Huntsman is believed to be related to Wayne Allen Huntsman, who was indicted in December 2014 for allegedly starting the devastating “King Fire” near Pollock Pines.
McMillin said officers responded both times, but refrained from commenting further due to the ongoing investigation.
Later, investigators received a tip that Huntsman and Curiel might be responsible for two young children – ages 6 and 3 – missing from Monterey County.
