2 children found in storage died somewhere else
A child abuse case that shook seasoned investigators has gotten worse.
A woman and a teenage boy who recently moved away from Salinas are facing charges in the deaths of two young children found in a storage unit in Redding and the abuse of a 9-year-old girl found in Quincy, a community in Plumas County.
Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo also said Thursday that autopsies had determined the children – ages 3 and 6 – died around Thanksgiving in Salinas of ongoing physical abuse.
Tami Huntsman and Gonzalo Curiel are also charged in a child abuse case. A woman and a 17-year-old boy have both been arrested on child abuse charges in the case of a 9-year-old girl found near death. It’s not known if she had legal custody.
According to news reports, the children had been cared for by their father after their mother died last year, but their father was incarcerated earlier this year and that’s how they ended up with Huntsman, who is reportedly an aunt. While Curiel has been widely reported to be Huntsman’s boyfriend, Salinas police identified him only as Huntsman’s “companion”. Officers were unable to find anyone at the unit during the first call, Mcmillin said. No charges have been filed in their deaths.
The investigation started Friday with a name a few attainable youngster abuse case within the small city of Quincy, the place authorities discovered the ravenous 9-year-old woman at a home, based on a information launch from the Plumas County Sheriff’s Workplace.
On Nov. 28, they stayed at a Motel 6 in Dunnigan, a Yolo County community north of Sacramento, police said.
They were arrested after police responded to reports of a 9-year-old girl being abused.
“This has shaken my staff to the core”, Hagwood told the Plumas News.
‘That little girl had been subjected to the most unspeakable measure of torture for an extended period of time.
This year Shaun was enrolled in the Monterey Charter Home School, said Faris Sabbah, assistant superintendent of student services at the Monterey County Office of Education. The girl is recovering from serious injuries and remains hospitalized.
The two remaining children – 12-year-old twins living at the suspects’ Quincy residence – were taken into foster care.
The two were charged with child abuse, torture and mayhem involving the minor.
An investigation is underway into the deaths of two young children found in a Redding storage unit. This is child abuse, the likes of which we haven’t experienced here’.
Deputies interrogated Huntsman and Curiel again.
“We’re speculating it’s the two missing juveniles”, Lieutenant Pete Brindley of the Redding Police tells Newsweek, explaining that police are waiting for the completion of the two autopsies and forensic exams before confirming the children’s identities, which are expected by Wednesday.
A spokesman for the Salinas Police Department says a news conference will be held there Thursday afternoon to discuss the case.
And it was around that time that neighbors say they stopped seeing the children, who they said would play out on the patio.
On Sunday, Redding officers acted on a tip from another police department, went to the AAA Enterprise Store-All and found two dead children inside one of the units.
The department will be investigating whether there were any “missed opportunities” to uncover wrongdoing, the chief said.
Robinson said investigators could not establish enough of a risk to the kids in Huntsman’s care to take them away.
