2 dead in 4-car crash on Taconic Parkway
Three people were killed Saturday in a four-vehicle crash on Taconic State Parkway that sent eight other people to area hospitals, New York State Police said.
New York State Police say the accident happened just before 3 p.m.in Yorktown, about an hour from Manhattan.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a BMW sport utility vehicle was traveling northbound when it exited the roadway into the center median, struck an earth embankment, and became airborne into the southbound lanes. A third southbound vehicle then crashed into the others. Five others are in stable condition at Westchester Medical Center. Police did not immediately identify the victims. Massive traffic jams also occurred in both the north- and southbound lanes for most of Saturday afternoon.
News 12 sources on the scene say one of the deceased is a child. “It was disgusting”. They are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Hawthorne Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 914-742-6400.
According to state police at the Cortlandt barracks, it was a four-car accident.
