2 dead, several hurt after Fort Worth dance studio shooting
A second victim died after being taken to a nearby hospital, authorities said.
Police in Fort Worth, Texas are investigating a deadly shooting outside a dance studio.
The event was unauthorized and attended by about 60 people, the owner of the studio said.
Police say an unknown number of people exchanged fire in a shooting at a dance studio that left two people dead and at least five people injured.
The studio is located on a state highway near several businesses. Moore says he tried to resuscitate one of the victims, but he was shot in the lungs and died at the scene. Reyna said she did not even know the group was there until one of her instructors called her at 12.45 a.m.to report a commotion at the facility, according to The Guardian.
Moore said the shooting occurred around midnight. The motive of the shooting is unclear.
Reyna said Studio 74 is a non-profit dance hall, seven years in the making, aimed celebrating hip hop culture, serving as a creative outlet, and teaching young people to dance.
Broken glass from a trophy case and plastic cups covered the floor of the studio on Saturday morning. Blood stains could be seen outside the building, near scattered chairs and garbage – including empty liquor bottles. No further information has been given, aside from the fact that an investigation is ongoing.
Studio 74’s website said it provides dance programming for school-age children in underserved communities.
“I’m very heartfelt for the family and victims”, Reyna said responding to the Texas dance studio shooting. “We try to stay away from events like this that happen”.
“We as a dance family had no involvement with the incident that occurred last night”, they wrote. “Please continue to pray for them”.
