2 ex-presidents witness wounded veteran’s marriage proposal
Who better then, than two former presidents who were present as Mr Jeffries popped the question to Lauren Lilly.
He was injured by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan in 2012.
Jeffries and other wounded veterans – all featured in the book “Unbreakable Bonds: The Mighty Moms and Wounded Warriors of Walter Reed” – were invited to visit the famed Bush family summer residence in Kennebunkport, Maine. In the video, Jeffries is shown getting down on one knee with help from some friends and asking Lilly to marry him with the two former presidents and two former first ladies smiling in the background.
“They told me you need to get her here in the next five minutes”, he said.
“At first I was completely shocked”, Jeffries said over the phone from his home in North Carolina. “I knew I wanted to do it up in Maine”.
“I wasn’t expecting to do it….”
Bush 41 later posted a photo of the moment to Twitter, along with a wish for a “lifetime of joy together”. When the Bush family heard Jeffries had intended to propose, they encouraged him to do it at the Kennebunkport home.
His girlfriend Lauren Lilly, 24, was out in town with his daughter. “They treated us all like family”, Jeffries said, noting they have yet to set a wedding date.
‘No one is going to be able to top this, ‘ Jeffries said of the proposal.
“He’s incredible”, Lilly said.
