2 injured in Cessna plane crash in Cresskill
It happened just before 5 p.m. Thursday at Regan Field right behind the Cresskill Community Center at 100 3rd Street. That callsign could indicate that the plane was flying for the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the uniformed volunteer arm of the Coast Guard.
Witness Frank Ruggiero told NBC New York he was at work when a colleague alerted him to the low-flying plane.
But the engine cut out completely and the pilot was forced to put the Cessna 172 down in Cresskill, about 9 miles northeast of the Jersey airport, sources said.
Biermann reported seeing first responders take one person out of the aircraft who appeared to have facial, neck and back injuries.
It was not immediately clear what sort of damage the cabin of the plane, which crashed into a line of trees separating the soccer field from apartments, had sustained.
The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the cause of the crash.
