2 men arrested for suspected murder of UCLA student
WESTWOOD-Authorities have apprehended two suspects in connection to the death of Andrea Lauren DelVesco that occurred on September 21.
Paul Huebl, a former Chicago Police Officer and private investigator told NBC LA that he believed that drug suppliers higher up in the chain of distribution were afraid she would identify them in court.
Alberto Medina, 22, was arrested Saturday in Fresno, and 22-year-old Eric Marquez was taken into custody Sunday near his apartment in Westwood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Marquez is a fifth-year undergraduate UCLA student majoring in biology, UCLA said.
Information has surfaced indicating that the victim was facing charges in connection to possession of two controlled substances stemming from an arrest that occurred on June 10. No bail amount was set for Medina, cops said; bail for Marquez was $1 million.
Meanwhile, Andrea’s heartbroken parents have spoken out for the first time since the mysterious death of their daughter.
Her father stressed that though her life was cut short, “when she was here she affected so many people in so many positive ways that I’m just beginning to understand”. Homicide investigators looked at forensic evidence and witness statements that linked Medina and Marquez to the murder.
Delvesco, 21, a native of Austin, Texas, was a senior majoring in psychology.
“Andy had a contagious spirit and was a fearless giver”, said Pi Beta Phi Chapter President Jacquie Medeiros in a statement. “Andy was a friend to every person she met”.
On July 8, she was arraigned on charges of possessing the drugs Ecstasy, LSD, methamphetamine and Psilocybin, and pleaded not guilty.
