2 men arrested in shooting death of California boy in yard
Two men have been arrested in the fatal shooting of a 4-year-old Highland boy, officials said.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Friday that 20-year-old Darron Daniels and 25-year-old Maurice Kelley were arrested and booked Thursday night on suspicion of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
A white, four-door, 1990s Toyota Camry with black bumpers was seen in the neighborhood at the time of the shooting.
On Thursday, homicide detectives were interviewing witnesses and investigating the scene of the shooting.
Daniels and Kelley are expected to appear in court on Monday.
Residents said they heard multiple gunshots in the city about 60 miles east of Los Angeles.
The victim, identified as Daniel Munoz, was killed by an apparent stray bullet fired on a nearby street while he played in his grandmother’s front yard, according to law enforcement and the young victim’s family.
His mother, Yuliana Morales, had taken an elder sibling and cousins to an amusement park and promised the boy he could go next time, the Times said.
The child was pronounced dead at a hospital.
“It’s my fault for leaving him here”, she said.
