2 militants killed in encounter with security forces in J&K
Two terrorists of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit were today killed in an encounter with security forces in Awantipur area of south Kashmir, police said.
One soldier was injured in the encounter, which occurred during search operations in Hari, a community in the region’s Pulwama district. As the cordon was being tightened around the suspected area where the militants were hiding, the militants opened a heavy volume of indiscriminate fire following which an intense exchange of fire ensued.
“The terrorists, identified as Adil Pathan and Burmi, were Pakistani nationals”, a senior police officer told NDTV.
Indian police said Sunday two militants were killed during a firefight at a village in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
He said the operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and other “war-like stores”, including a grenade, four magazines and 80 bullets.
However, the soldier who had sustained a gunshot wound was instantly evacuated, and his situation is reported to be secure.
Police sources said that the identification of the two militants has been done, however, they did not reveal their identity. JeM is the terror outfit that had attacked Parliament on 13 December, 2001.
