2 off-duty NYPD detectives subdue man in Hollywood stabbing
The 25- to 30-year-old victim was attacked about 1:10 p.m. Wednesday at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, site of the Hollywood & Highland center popular with tourists, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
The two off duty detectives, interceded likely saving the life of the sightseer and in Los Angeles on police company, saw the assault, authorities said.
The officers alerted the LAPD and detained the slasher until police arrived to take him in, cops said. His name was not released.
The wounded tourist was undergoing surgery and was expected to survive, said Cmdr. Andrew Smith said, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The incident is now under investigation and officers are working on identifying the attacker, who was only described as a male. Meanwhile, Mulligan helped the victim’s wife render aid to her husband, he said.
“Everyone started running to the windows. I turned around and the first thing I saw was a guy bent over”, Brown said. “He kept looking at his hand and putting it to his neck”. The man who was stabbed was capable of stand, she stated.
Brown said that no one could enter or leave the building until police cordoned off the crime scene and Sephora workers locked in the company during the strike.
“It’s really unfortunate that someone from out of town came to visit, to relax and gets attacked in this manner”, Kim said. “I was shocked. It was like a nightmare”.
The two members of New York’s Finest drew their guns as the knife-waving attacker stabbed the victim.
