2 teens missing off Jupiter

Coast Guard crews in Florida are searching for two teenage boys and their boat after they didn’t return from a fishing trip on Friday, officials said. The pair was last seen buying fuel Friday afternoon in the Jupiter area.

Perry Cohen and Austin Stephanos, both 14, were aboard a 19-foot white single-engine boat.

Officials received a report that the boys had disappeared at about 5 p.m. after they didn’t return to shore at the expected time. The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office was also assisting with the search.

After the boys were reported overdue, the Coast Guard issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and deployed an HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane and MH-65 ” Dolphin helicopter from an air station in Miami.

Based on a social media posting by the boys, authorities believed they were headed toward the Bahamas, but they typically do not go farther than 200 to 300 feet from the marina, he said.
