2 who inspired Obama to attend State of Union address
Amazon is partnering with the White House to make Barack Obama’s upcoming State of the Union address viewable on demand, marking the first time the annual events have been put on an on-demand video service.
Edith Childs will join 22 other invited guests from around the country to sit in the box with the Michelle Obama, Dr. Jill Biden, and Senior Advisor to the President Valerie Jarrett.
But the new approach will allow the White House to stretch its reach even further, attempting to engage even more viewers regardless of how they consume media.
Despite his inevitable slide into lame-duck status and the partisan politics of the election year, Obama is emboldened by recent successes that formed one of the most productive stretches in his presidency.
In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, California, Obama will also seek to reassure Americans once again about their safety. The White House announced Saturday it will employ Genius, an online platform frequently used to break down the lyrics of songs, to offer an annotated version of Obama’s final State of the Union address, set for Tuesday.
As his top aides have described it, Obama has chosen to deliver a “nontraditional” State of the Union. Central to his speech will be a renewed call for a criminal justice overhaul and for approval of his Asia-Pacific trade agreement, which many Republicans support.
“The country’s not headed in the right direction”, Ryan told reporters on Thursday.
“We think that there is a lot of noise coming from one party”, said one aide, insisting the negativity of the campaign trail does not represent the broader nation. And that’s what we’re going to do. In January 2005, Obama was sworn in as a U.S. Senator in the state of IL.
It has been tradition for presidents to make a trip the day after the State of the Union.
The fight against Islamic State will also feature prominently in the speech, after December’s mass shooting in San Bernardino by a couple that was inspired by the terrorist group.
The White House has been trying to keep up with trends in how people watch and consume media. McDonough said that sanctions targeting individuals and entities responsible for the tests would be issued “when it’s time”.
