2 women shoot at US consulate in Turkey
One of the assailants – a woman – was injured in the crossfire and was captured inside a nearby building where she hid, the private Dogan news agency reported. The Revolutionary People’s Liberation Army-Front, or DHKP-C, identified the US embassy in Istanbul attack suspect Hatice Asik.
Overnight from Sunday into Monday, a separate attack took place on the other side of the city. Reuters could not immediately verify the report.
“Our (PKK) fighters, leaders of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and the Turkish government’s officials failed to administer and commit themselves to the peace negotiations”, Ocalan said in a letter, according to Rudaw, a local news site.
The PKK has claimed over 20 killings of police and security forces in Turkey over the last two weeks as retaliation for the air strikes against it. The group claimed responsibility for January’s suicide attack in Istanbul’s tourist district of Sultanahmet that left the female bomber and a policeman dead. A leftist group said it carried out that attack.
The incidents come amid rising tensions over Turkey’s involvement in the U.S.-led fight against Islamic State militants. Also, one soldier was killed when a military helicopter drew fire in the province in an attack officials blamed on “separatist terrorists”-shorthand for the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK”. One attacker perished in the explosion, while two others along with a police officer were later killed in a gunfire exchange.
The DHKP-C, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU, was behind the suicide bombing at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara two years ago, which claimed the life of a Turkish security guard.

The consulate said in a tweet that it was closed until further notice.
The government has also vowed to begin strikes against IS militants in Syria alongside US forces who have now started arriving to use the well-located Incirlik air base in southern Turkey. The PKK, designated a terrorist group by Ankara, the United States and European Union, launched its insurgency in 1984 to press for greater Kurdish rights. However Turkey has concentrated its firepower on attacking suspected PKK positions in japanese Turkey and Iraq.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan later joined mourners at his funeral in Istanbul broadcast live on television.
Turkey’s airstrikes against Kurdish separatists has drawn worldwide condemnation, with about 5,000 people gathering in the German city of Cologne to protest against the ongoing air raids in northern Iraq.
