200 million using Windows 10, Microsoft growing enterprise users
Microsoft proudly touted today that Windows 10 is now installed on more than 200 million devices around the world, up from 110 in October.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows 10 made its debut a few months ago.
Five months after its launch, Windows 10 is now activated on more than 200 million devices worldwide, according to Microsoft.
“Overall, we are seeing significantly higher customer satisfaction with Windows 10 than any prior version of Windows”, said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Windows and Devices Group, in a blog post.
Microsoft’s goal is to get Windows 10 on 1 billion devices by 2018.
The much-loved Start menu, which was removed in Windows 8 to much public outcry, is also making a return in the new software, as the USA firm looks to modernise and appeal to a new range of customers.
The new Windows Store has seen 3 billion visits. and 2x increase in the number of paid transactions. The recent declaration from the company turned out to be an awe-inspiring one as the official declared that there are as many as 200 million devices that are run by this operating system. This latest update for the Windows 10 base is now being shared as the number of monthly active devices.
Meanwhile, going by the Net Applications figures, the 10.9 percent growth rate witnessed by Windows 10 OS in the first five months after launch is comparatively slower than that of Windows 7 OS for the same period. Over 82 billion photos have been viewed using the Photos app, Microsoft added, and gamers spent 4 billion hours playing PC games-streaming 6.6 million hours of Xbox One games to the PC, to boot. That’s up from 9 percent in November, CNET reported; but Windows 7, which was released in 2009, still held a share of almost 56 percent in December. Starting tomorrow, Surface Book will be available to order in several new markets, including Austria, Australia, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, and New Zealand. Currently, Windows 10 is used on about 10% of desktops, and Windows XP is used on 11%. “We’re also excited to bring Surface Pro to India in the coming weeks”.
The Windows 10 Update for mobile which was due back in December 2015 is expected as soon as possible, this year (with the exact release date still unknown).
